SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Die Schlafkranken
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Die Schlafkranken 3.-31. Oktober 2026 Programm 15.10 Filmvorführung &=0D=0AGespräch ‚Schlafkrankheit‘ Ulrich Köhler (Im Rahmen des=0D=0AInternationalen Queer Film Festivals) 22.10 Filmvorführung: S/he is=0D=0Astill her/e, – The Official Genesis P-Orridge Documentary 30.10=0D=0APerformance. Do sleep-sick dream of trans parasites? The control measures introduced=0D=0Aby european powers to combat the disease in the African colonies rank=0D=0Aamong the most far-reaching projects of social engineering and=0D=0Abiopolitical control of the 20th century. These racist medical=0D=0Ameasures served less to combat the disease and protect health of=0D=0Aindigenous comunities than to safeguard colonial economic interests=0D=0Aand control the African population. Despite well-documented historical=0D=0Aresearch, this chapter is still often downplayed and has scarcely been=0D=0Aproperly addressed, shielded under the guise of German tropical=0D=0Amedicine. In a present in which sleep habits are regulated,=0D=0A“deviant” bodies pathologized, and ill bodies devalued and even=0D=0Apunished, Joëlle Mesén-Ramírez & team examine the history of=0D=0Asleeping sickness control from a queer and decolonial perspective. In=0D=0Aa multimedia, interdisciplinary work, they draw parallels between=0D=0Ahistorical mechanisms of control and today’s surveillance and=0D=0Acontrol practices directed at minorities — trans people, migrants,=0D=0Aand people of color — translating them into a performative=0D=0Ainstallation. In the process, the figure of the sleep-sick is=0D=0Areinterpreted and their dreams transformed in an archive of dissent=0D=0Aand subversion that denounces both the colonial and the current=0D=0Ameasures. The residency is part of the research and conception process=0D=0Afor developing the performance The Sleep Sick, which will premiere on=0D=0Athe MS Stubnitz in March 2027.=0D=0A
