SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Subhumans
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Subhumans were, between 1980-85, one of the most prolific and original=0D=0Aof the evolving UK punk scene. Musical influences were a mix of Sex=0D=0APistols, Damned, and similar punk originators and prepunk bands like=0D=0AKing Crimson and Frank Zappa, which led to a style of punk more=0D=0Aintricate in its structure than their contemporaries, without losing=0D=0Athe base energy and dynamics of punk.=0D=0A=0D=0ADick’s lyrics, at once socially aware and heavily critical of social=0D=0Anorms, placed them in the anarcho-punk area, alongside Crass,=0D=0AAntisect, Conflict, and Flux of Pink Indians, who released the=0D=0Aband’s first 3 EPs and their first LP “The Day The Country=0D=0ADied”, which became an instant classic.=0D=0A=0D=0AIn ’83 they formed their own label, Bluurg Records, and released the=0D=0A“From the Cradle to the Grave” LP after splitting up in ’85. By=0D=0Athen they’d played 262 gigs including several European tours and 2=0D=0Ain the USA (which was in the 80’s a rare achievement for a=0D=0Anon-commercially minded band).=0D=0A=0D=0ADick went on to join seminal ska-punk-reggae band Culture Shock, and=0D=0Amet up with Phil and Trotsky again in Citizen Fish, who have so far=0D=0Arecorded 7 LPs of their politipunk-ska songs and clocked up over 1000=0D=0Agigs across the planet. Then in ’98 these 3 ex-Subhumans roped Bruce=0D=0Aback in to reform Subhumans, to ‘see what it felt like’, and, it=0D=0Afeeling rather excellent, have kept going with occasional touring and=0D=0Aa limited release CD of old unused songs, “Unfinished Business”.=0D=0A=0D=0ASince then, Subhumans have released a new album, “Internal Riot”,=0D=0Aand toured regularly in Europe, the USA and Australia.=0D=0A=0D=0AQueens of the Stone Age recorded and released their version of a Subs=0D=0Asong ‘Wake Up Screaming’, and the film director Asia Argento has=0D=0Aasked to use Subs music in her adaptation of “The Heart is Deceitful=0D=0AAbove All Things”.=0D=0A=0D=0Ahttps://subhumans.bandcamp.com/=0D=0A
