SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Mondo Drag (us) & Early Moods (us)
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:heavy psych | krautrock | space rock | doom | heavy metal=0D=0A=0D=0AIt’s been nearly eight years since the last Mondo Drag album came=0D=0Aout. In that time, the Bay Area psych-prog band toured the US and=0D=0AEurope, performed at major festivals and—once again—reformed their=0D=0Arhythm section. But in the context of the band’s nearly two-decade=0D=0Aexistence, this period may have been the most fraught. Vocalist and=0D=0Akeyboardist John Gamiño lost friends and family members. Meanwhile,=0D=0Ahumanity suffered the throes of a global pandemic. “It was a dark=0D=0Achapter,” he recalls. “I was going through a lot of stuff=0D=0Apersonally—there’s been a lot of death, loss of family members,=0D=0Aand grief. Plus, the band was inactive. It felt like time was slipping=0D=0Aaway from me. I felt like I was wasting my opportunities. I felt like=0D=0AI wasn’t participating in my story as much as I could have.”=0D=0A=0D=0AEarly Moods’ sophomore album A Sinner’s Past is the ultimate=0D=0Adosage of classic early 70s proto-metal, 90s grunge riffing and=0D=0Atimeless songwriting delivered with an explosive youthful energy. The=0D=0ALos Angeles area quartet burst onto the scene fully formed with a=0D=0Asound that somehow simultaneously merged gritty underground Street=0D=0ADoom with slick “big box” Heavy Metal melodies on their=0D=0Aself-titled RidingEasy debut album in 2022. And it’s the band’s=0D=0Ahighly skilled musicianship paired with exquisite aesthetic taste —=0D=0Ain addition to their killer live show — that has made them an=0D=0Aimmediate popular favorite.=0D=0A
