DeLorean approaching the Reeperbahn: BACK TO THE FUTURE – The Musical from spring 2026 in Hamburg
Stage Entertainment brings the wacky adventure of Marty McFly and Doc Brown to the stage. The legendary time travel adventure in the world-famous DeLorean promises an electrifying musical spectacle full of impressive effects, iconic characters, and plenty of humor. The award-winning musical sensation BACK TO THE FUTURE – The Musical celebrates its German premiere in spring 2026 at the Stage Operettenhaus in Hamburg.
This story is an absolute classic! Marty McFly is a typical 80s teenager: a skateboarder, a rock 'n' roll fan, and totally fed up with his parents. One day, his best friend, Dr. Emmett Brown, accidentally sends him on a time-traveling adventure. Thanks to a DeLorean converted into a time machine, Marty suddenly finds himself back in 1955. To fix the present, he has to escape the past and send himself... back to the future... because before he can return to 1985, Marty has to make his teenage parents fall in love to ensure his own survival. A race against time begins.
The cult film "Back to the Future" from 1985, starring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett Brown, is one of the greatest classics in film history, having grossed $360.6 million worldwide and continuing to captivate generations of fans. Its success continues with the musical version: BACK TO THE FUTURE – The Musical stays true to the original with its witty dialogue and has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Olivier Award for Best New Musical. The show broke box office records and has generated enthusiasm worldwide. Following its world premiere in Manchester in 2020 and its successful West End premiere in London in 2021, BACK TO THE FUTURE – The Musical is now coming to Hamburg.
BACK TO THE FUTURE – The Musical was written by Bob Gale, co-writer of the film trilogy, and features new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy Award winners Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. Silvestri also composed the iconic film score for the series. Alongside the new songs, the musical also includes beloved hits from the blockbuster, including "The Power of Love" (Huey Lewis & The News), "Earth Angel" (Marvin Berry & The Starlighters), and "Johnny B. Goode" (Chuck Berry). It is directed by Tony Award winner John Rando.
Bob Gale: “To quote Marty McFly: You’re ready for this – and your kids will love it! If Bob Zemeckis and I had time-traveled back in 1980 and told our younger selves that the script we were desperately working on back then would become a hit musical 43 years later, they would have thrown us out of the office and thought we were crazy. But sometimes crazy ideas lead to great entertainment – and now Bob and I can’t wait to share our musical with the Hamburg audience. Whether you’ve seen the original film or not, BACK TO THE FUTURE – THE Musical, with its outstanding performances and breathtaking stagecraft, will thrill and captivate you, your children, your parents – everyone!”
Thanks to a multi-award-winning creative team, including Tim Hatley (set and costume design), Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone (lighting design), and Gareth Owen (sound design), the musical impresses with superb graphic and lighting design, spectacular set design, and innovative, top-notch special effects. The audience is right there with Marty and Doc as they race across the stage at 140 km/h through a thunderstorm, narrowly escaping and breaking through the space-time continuum. A particularly impressive feature is the life-size DeLorean. The choreography is by Chris Bailey, musical supervision by Nick Finlow, and illusions created by Chris Fisher.
Uschi Neuss, Managing Director of Stage Entertainment Germany: “With BACK TO THE FUTURE – The Musical, we are bringing one of the greatest cult films of all time to Germany as a spectacular live experience. This show combines impressive special effects, captivating music, and a timeless story that will thrill fans of the film as well as newcomers…”
