Beethoven as a benchmark, a challenge and a starting point: in the Grand Hall of the Laeiszhalle, three works come together, each exploring in its own distinct way the question of how to engage with an overwhelming role model. A programme brimming with energy, tension and musical contrasts, spanning two centuries – from Unsuk Chin’s contemporary musical language through Beethoven’s dramatic piano concerto to Brahms’s magnificent First Symphony.
