In her debut conducting the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Anna Rakitina presents a program that explores the art of variation in a wide variety of facets. In his »Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis«, Ralph Vaughan Williams weaves an impressive soundscape from a Renaissance melody, while Tchaikovsky lends the cello virtuosic brilliance in his »Rococo Variations«. The soloist for the evening is French cellist Edgar Moreau.

The grand finale is Antonín Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony – a work of great drama and emotional depth that lends an unmistakable musical voice to the aspirations for freedom of its time. A thrilling concert evening balancing tradition, innovation, and symphonic passion.
