Sound meets club atmosphere, and vocal artistry meets electrifying intimacy: At the Martha Argerich Festival Hamburg, the Mojo Club on the Reeperbahn provides the stage for an evening blending expressionism, art song, and global grooves.
Arnold Schoenberg’s »Ode to Napoleon« opens this club program with a gripping musical theater piece for narrator and ensemble (featuring Annie Dutoit, David Kadouch, and members of the Moreau family, among others). This is followed by touching song miniatures by Alban Berg as well as songs by Richard Strauss, from “Die Nacht” to »Morgen,« featuring soprano Sandrine Piau. In Franz Schubert’s »Der Hirt auf dem Felsen,« her voice blends with strings and piano in poetic intimacy.
After the intermission, the perspective shifts: The Bustan Abraham Quartet, featuring Zohar Fresco, Haggai Cohen-Milo, Amir Milstein, and Taiseer Elias, ignites a captivating dialogue between classical music, jazz, and Middle Eastern soundscapes.
An evening full of contrasts—raw, intimate, and irresistibly alive.
