QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1st to 31st, 2026 (www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events within the festival will bring the history (and stories) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome – Kings, Quings, Queens, Allies, Friends, (chosen) Families, and everyone in between and beyond!
Event
In Hinterconti, a space for shared remembrance is created: The 2003 Drag Olympics, queer interventions and political struggles are brought to life from different perspectives and connected with current issues – an open project between past, present and future impulses for action.
A project of shared remembrance in Hinterconti, focusing on the Drag Olympics, which took place in 2003 in the square in front of the Rote Flora. A precursor to this project was a Blessless residency in Hinterconti in 2022, during which we spent an afternoon collecting and reviewing materials and digitally mapping some initial aspects.
We will be performing at the Hinterconti on Friday and Saturday and will invite representatives of the participating drag gangs and people from the audience at that time to take part in the joint remembrance.
The space will be open from midday until early evening. The focus will not only be on the event itself, but also on the protagonists' subjective and spatial relationships to it, the history of this intervention, the political landscape of the time (the protest against the eviction of the Bambule caravan site and against the right-wing populist Schill Party), and other forms of public intervention and queer activities within this context.
And while remembering also shapes what happened, it will also be about what impulses we can gain from it for present and future queer action.
