Possible Islands

Possible Islands

  • Free of charge

In their exhibition "Possible Islands", photographic artists Jewgeni Roppel and Karsten Kronas bring together landscapes of psychological states – places situated between longing and withdrawal, euphoria and isolation, control and dissolution.

The idea of an island is presented not as a geographical space, but as a canvas for human needs: as a utopia, a place of refuge, a discovery, a projection, or the promise of an alternative self.

Jewgeni Roppel and Karsten Kronas explore the medium of photography within the context of diverse techniques and experiments. In their joint exhibition, the two artists focus on the notion of time as a postmodern, non-linear concept. For them, time is a unifying element, a parameter in the perception or assessment of human relationships, which – like photographs – can be characterised by imperfections, changes and irritations. In a fluid, interdisciplinary manner, the two photographic artists invite visitors to nachtspeicher23 as a guest space where processes of transformation can be experienced through experimental visual worlds.

You are warmly invited to the opening on Friday 5 June from 6 pm! The exhibition opens in parallel with this year’s Hamburg Photography Triennial 2026: ‘Alliance, Infinity, Love – in the Face of the Other’.
