In myth, fate is irrevocable: Orpheus had one last chance to rescue his beloved Eurydice from the underworld, but failed when he looked back at her. All the harder, then, to come to terms with fate after that missed opportunity. In »Orpheus Undone«, premiered in 2022, NDR Artist in Residence Missy Mazzoli explores precisely this emotional dilemma. The music grew out of her experience of how, in moments of shock or trauma, time can seem to move at different speeds simultaneously, and how one longs to somehow undo such moments...
