HIRPANI
HIRPANI is a Turkish electro-folk trio that brings traditional Anatolian folk music into a modern, electronic form. Alternatively, the term “Hırpani” (or “Xırpani”) also denotes a traditional, very fast rhythm and Halay dance form in Kurdish and Anatolian folklore.
The trio consists of three well-known artists from the alternative music scene:
Ipek Ipekcioglu (DJ-Ipek – electronic beats and production)
Deniz Mahir Kartal (wind instruments such as Duduk and Kaval, Çağlama – a special, often three-string electric bouzouki/long-neck lute, vocals)
Hakan Vreskala (percussion, vocals, and drums)

Ipek Ipekcioglu, aka DJ-Ipek, has been a formative figure in the global Ethno-Orient-Electronic music scene for over 30 years. As a DJ, producer, curator, and queer activist, she moves between Berlin and Istanbul, merging club culture with cultural diversity, political stance, and artistic vision in her work.
Musically, Ipek blends Psychedelic Turkish Funk with Disco, traditional sounds with House, Kurdish Halay with Electro, traditional 9/8 rhythms with Baile Funk, and Anatolian folk songs with Techno, while also connecting Deep House, Tech-House, and Melodic Techno with the multifaceted soundscapes of Anatolia, Turkey, Kurdistan, Iran, and the Middle East—an invitation to dance, connect, and celebrate together.
