"Torn Worlds – Kaleidoscope of Memories 1952-2022," drawing on the biographical experiences of director and author Franziska Jakobi and enriched with the experiences of other individuals from Germany, Ukraine, and Russia, brings to the stage formative stories of three generations in the post-Soviet space: forced resettlements in East Germany in the 1950s and 60s, the upheaval of the 1990s, and the war in Ukraine today. Originally conceived as a three-person play in 2023, this new solo version approaches the material with fresh perspectives, framing personal experiences with historical facts and focusing primarily on the relationship between generations in the context of homeland and its loss under Soviet and Russian politics. A theatrical-performative picture of East-West history since 1952 emerges, with different timelines nested within each other, interconnected, yet each with its own personal touch – just like in a kaleidoscope, like in a whirlpool of memories.
