The soloist is Sebastian=0D=0AFritsch, since 2021 principal cello of the Staatskapelle Dresden and=0D=0Awinner of the 2018 TONALi Cello Competition. His participation also=0D=0Abrings a special connection back to Hamburg. After the interval comes=0D=0AJean Sibelius’ First Symphony, a work of sweeping symphonic arcs,=0D=0Adramatic power and Nordic colours, in which the influence of=0D=0ATchaikovsky can still be heard while Sibelius’ unmistakable=0D=0Aindividual voice is already emerging.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe Magdeburgische Philharmonie is the opera and concert orchestra of=0D=0Athe Magdeburg Theatre, which was named »Theatre of the Year« in=0D=0A2025. Conducting is Christian Øland, general music director of the=0D=0Atheatre and chief conductor of the Magdeburgische Philharmonie. He was=0D=0Aadmitted to the conducting class at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki=0D=0Aat the age of 18.
