SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Rayess Bek & Joan Baz
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Since 2023, the Dabke dance has been listed as part of UNESCO’s=0D=0AIntangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In Lebanon, too, it is an=0D=0Aintegral part of every wedding, public holiday or family celebration=0D=0Aand is deeply rooted in tradition. In his latest project, the Lebanese=0D=0Amusician Waël Koudaih, also known as Rayess Bek, breathes new life=0D=0Ainto this dance and brings it into the present day with the help of=0D=0Asynthesisers.=0D=0AFor the project, Rayess Bek has recorded well-known musicians who have=0D=0Asung and played familiar songs for him. During the concert, he will=0D=0Aplace these recordings in a new context through distortions and=0D=0Aoverlays. To complement this, artist and designer Joan Baz will=0D=0Atransform the concert into an immersive experience with an impressive=0D=0Avideo show.=0D=0A=0D=0AIncidentally, »dabke« translates as »stamping one’s feet on the=0D=0Aground« and alludes to the possible origins of this line dance: when=0D=0Amany people in the region that is now Lebanon lived in mud-brick=0D=0Ahouses, the inhabitants had to climb onto the roofs at regular=0D=0Aintervals to compact the loose mud. To do this, they would line up and=0D=0Astamp around on the roof in set rhythmic patterns – a practice from=0D=0Awhich the traditional dabke is believed to have evolved.=0D=0A=0D=0APERFORMERS=0D=0A=0D=0AWAEL KOUDAIH live electronics=0D=0A=0D=0AJOAN BAZ live video=0D=0A=0D=0AANTOINEBENNER lighting design=0D=0A=0D=0APROGRAM=0D=0A=0D=0A»Chayyel«=0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0ATraditional dabke music and dance reimagined in a contemporary form=0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0AAn audiovisual and electronic improvisation=0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A
