SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Voice, Violin & Piano Recital
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:This concert brings together a single sacred work, Baroque and early=0D=0AClassical repertoire, French art song, and new music reflecting on=0D=0ACanadian poetry, with an emphasis on fresh and detailed=0D=0Ainterpretation.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe program moves from F. Buencamino's Ave Maria and Bach through late=0D=0ABaroque–early Classical Scarlatti sonatas, then to an excerpt from=0D=0A"Classical Reflections on Canadian Poetry," including the world=0D=0Apremiere of West Wind, a three-movement work for voice and piano=0D=0Acomposed by Houman Dehlavi on a poem by E. Pauline Johnson, a Canadian=0D=0Apoet and performer of Mohawk and English ancestry.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe evening continues with songs by Fauré, Cui, and Poulenc, and=0D=0AMassenet's Élégie. It concludes with a new interpretation of Shur=0D=0ADaramads for kamancheh, piano, and voice, based on a newly developed=0D=0Acompositional and notational approach that seeks to recover neglected=0D=0Aaesthetics and nuances from non-Western musical systems that have not=0D=0Abeen fully preserved under dominant Western notation practices. This=0D=0Aline of research and composition has been developed by Kasra Faridi=0D=0Athrough a Chalmers Arts Fellowship from the Ontario Arts Council=0D=0A(OAC).=0D=0A=0D=0AProgram:=0D=0A=0D=0AF.
