SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Performance von Daniela Zambrano Almidón
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:It is said that fire reveals hidden stories. What happens when coffee=0D=0Abeans encounter this heat? What memories, sounds, and stories emerge?=0D=0A=0D=0AIn her interdisciplinary practice, Daniela Zambrano Almidón combines=0D=0Aartistic research with questions of memory, decolonization processes,=0D=0Aand the ecological, technological, and social interconnections of the=0D=0AAndean region. Starting with the smell, taste, and sound of coffee=0D=0Aroasting, her lecture and sound performance unfolds a multifaceted=0D=0Anarrative about memory, knowledge, and the transmission as well as the=0D=0Adetachment from traditions and cultural identities.=0D=0A=0D=0AGuided by our sense of smell and our own experiences, we embark with=0D=0Athe artist on a journey to the beginnings of coffee cultivation in the=0D=0AHuánuco region of Peru. Its sweet aroma can sometimes carry a bitter=0D=0Aaftertaste. For the history of the plant here is inextricably linked=0D=0Ato colonialism, geopolitical power structures, and civilizing=0D=0Aprojects—to the settlement of Austrian and German colonists, to=0D=0Aextractive economic practices, and to the dispossession of indigenous=0D=0Acommunities in the central Peruvian rainforest. Thus, the scent of=0D=0Afreshly roasted coffee not only evokes associations of enjoyment and=0D=0Acommunity but also conveys a history of displacement, appropriation,=0D=0Aand violence.=0D=0A=0D=0AWith her performance, Daniela Zambrano Almidón picks up on questions=0D=0Aexplored by Melike Kara in her exhibition Whispers at the Kunsthaus=0D=0AHamburg: How do memories persist when their material carriers=0D=0Adisappear? While in the installation, burned photographs are=0D=0Aintegrated into the space as ash, and coffee grounds lose their=0D=0Ainterpretive function, the performance follows the memories inscribed=0D=0Ain the sound, smell, and taste of the coffee. Both works thus explore=0D=0Aidentity as an ongoing process of transformation, transmission, and=0D=0Arenegotiation.=0D=0A=0D=0AIn cooperation with the Gemüse Gallery=0D=0A=0D=0AVenue: Lange Str. 3, 20359 Hamburg=0D=0A=0D=0APlease register by emailing: register@kunsthaushamburg.de=0D=0A
