SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Mini Furniture: Chairs for Children
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:What functions can a chair have? Would children rather move, rock and=0D=0Aplay than sit still? Seen from a child’s perspective – do they=0D=0Aeven need a chair? The exhibition “Mini Furniture: Chairs for=0D=0AChildren” at the MK&G invites visitors to playfully explore these=0D=0Aquestions as they examine and try out different seating options,=0D=0Aalways with children in mind. A selection of over 130 historical and=0D=0Acurrent children’s chairs from the private Reinke Collection and the=0D=0Aholdings of the MK&G illustrates child-friendly furniture over two=0D=0Acenturies in a wide range of different designs: from traditional=0D=0Ahighchairs and nineteenth-century models such as the “Stabelle”,=0D=0Ato Art Nouveau and Bauhaus chairs, and onward to 1960s pop design and=0D=0Athe furniture of today. Iconic chairs meet up here with lesser-known=0D=0Adesigner objects covering a broad spectrum, including miniatures of=0D=0Aclassic adult chairs such as the “Panton Junior” by Verner Panton,=0D=0Achairs in which the child can be fixed in place, as well as=0D=0Apedagogical play and reform furniture that supports children’s=0D=0Amotor, social and creative development.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe exhibition encourages visitor participation at interactive=0D=0Astations: children can, for example, climb onto rolling “Wirbel=0D=0AWichtel” chairs and paint colourful traces of their trajectories,=0D=0Amaking visible the connection between furniture, movement and play.=0D=0AWith an oversized peg-board game, they can try out different seat=0D=0Aheights – and playfully discover varied postures. At a stamping and=0D=0Apainting station, visitors big and small can devise their own chair=0D=0Adesigns and exercise their creativity with the help of the four=0D=0Aexhibition mascots – Dös, Wackel, Hotzl and Pling. Certain areas of=0D=0Athe exhibition also let visitors test items such as an armchair or a=0D=0Agaming chair.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe design of the exhibition was developed by Max Guderian and the=0D=0Agraphics conceived by Larissa Mantel.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe exhibition is sponsored by the Exhibition Fund of the Free and=0D=0AHanseatic City of Hamburg and the Hans Brökel Stiftung für=0D=0AWissenschaft und Kultur.=0D=0A
