His past as an orchestra conductor is audible in the=0D=0Aartfully crafted, well-balanced arrangements. Even though it's a=0D=0Adwindling genre in the local music scene, Schrader proves that organic=0D=0Asounds, real instruments, real voices without autotune, and tracks=0D=0Aplayed at normal speed can release just as much dopamine. Listening to=0D=0Ahis music evokes a very special kind of satisfaction. Perhaps it's the=0D=0Acohesiveness, perhaps the harmonies, or some secret third element that=0D=0AALBRECHT SCHRADER will never reveal, or only in exclusive interviews=0D=0Afor a hefty fee. The fact is, there's no one else like him in this=0D=0Acountry.=0D=0A=0D=0A“ALBRECHT SCHRADER” begins with a sublime chord. “The Music=0D=0ABegins” starts, and what follows are nine more songs. Ten is=0D=0Aundoubtedly the ideal number of tracks for an album; attentive=0D=0Alisteners will have noticed this in previous releases. Where his last=0D=0Arecord was almost a disco moment, Schrader now returns to the craft of=0D=0Apop, classically instrumented with piano, warm synths, and rather soft=0D=0Adrums—actually even softer than “Soft” from 2023. Schrader has=0D=0Aretained his joy in beautiful sound. And with each new release, it=0D=0Aseems to grow even stronger. The upbeat “What Love Is Still=0D=0AWorth,” the bittersweet “Twenty Years of Nicotine,” or the=0D=0Aleisurely “I Read Something Into It” about the ambiguities of=0D=0Ainterpersonal encounters— ALBRECHT SCHRADER is either the most=0D=0Asophisticated in the pub or the most rocking in the concert hall, and=0D=0Aboth suit him perfectly.=0D=0A=0D=0ANevertheless, “ALBRECHT SCHRADER” also speaks of a kind of worldly=0D=0Amelancholy, always staying on the bright side of life, even in moments=0D=0Aof doubt. Like in “Ist Musik noch unser Ding” (Is Music Still Our=0D=0AThing?), the almost hymnal class anthem of current German pop misfits=0D=0Awith an existential crisis. Alongside Schrader, you can hear Saskia=0D=0ALavaux, Das Paradies, Resi Reiner, Rocko Schamoni, Malonda, Nicola=0D=0ARost, and finally Dirk von Lowtzow. So, is music still their thing?=0D=0AThe question posed by the final chorus remains unanswered. What=0D=0Aremains is the eulogy and the quiet certainty that there isn't much=0D=0Abetter out there to defy the storms of the present. In this sense ,=0D=0A“ALBRECHT SCHRADER” is also music for music, a bow to its own=0D=0Acraft.=0D=0A=0D=0AThe catchy lyrics only reveal their meta-level after the third time=0D=0Ayou hum along, so skillfully does SCHRADER weave his small, sometimes=0D=0Acheerful, sometimes melancholic observations of everyday life into his=0D=0Aaudience. As if he had signed some kind of chivalric code of honor,=0D=0Ahis linguistic barbs are so finely aimed that the afflicted, for=0D=0Aexample, the city of Hamburg (“I’m not sure if that’s=0D=0AHamburg’s fault”), might even be flattered at first. That’s just=0D=0Ahow it is with multifaceted art. It can be enjoyed in many ways. Yes,=0D=0AALBRECHT SCHRADER rebels while sitting down.
