By the age of fifteen, he was already performing=0D=0Aregularly with Kansas City’s best jazz musicians, where he developed=0D=0Aa musical maturity far beyond his years. =0D=0A=0D=0AMetheny celebrated his international breakthrough in 1974 alongside=0D=0Avibraphonist Gary Burton. Even then, the individual style that makes=0D=0Ahim unmistakable to this day was already emerging: flexible, almost=0D=0Avocal articulation, a modern approach to improvisation that=0D=0Anevertheless remains deeply rooted in jazz, and an extraordinary sense=0D=0Aof rhythm and harmony. With his debut album »Bright Size Life«=0D=0A(1975), he fundamentally renewed the sound of jazz guitar and inspired=0D=0Aan entire generation of young musicians.=0D=0A=0D=0AHardly any other guitarist moves so naturally between genres and=0D=0Asoundscapes. Metheny has worked with icons such as Steve Reich,=0D=0AOrnette Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Jim Hall, Milton Nascimento, and=0D=0ADavid Bowie, and has composed for solo guitar, ensembles, orchestras,=0D=0Aballet, and his groundbreaking »Orchestrion« project.
