SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:New York Philharmonic / Orfeó Català / Gustavo Dudamel
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The New York Philharmonic is one of the most renowned and historic=0D=0Aorchestras in the USA. Once conducted by Gustav Mahler and Leonard=0D=0ABernstein, it now appears with its new, charismatic Music & Artistic=0D=0ADirector Gustavo Dudamel to perform a work by the influential American=0D=0Acomposer John Adams that commemorates one of the darkest chapters in=0D=0Athe history of New York and the USA. =0D=0A=0D=0AThe world stood still when, on 11 September 2001, two aeroplanes=0D=0Acrashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York in=0D=0Aquick succession. There was a collective sense of disbelief=0D=0Aeverywhere. Shortly afterwards, the New York Philharmonic commissioned=0D=0Aa work from John Adams intended to capture the public’s emotional=0D=0Astate through music. One year after the attacks, »On the=0D=0ATransmigration of Souls« received its world premiere at Avery Fisher=0D=0AHall in Lincoln Center. Adams describes his work as »a space of=0D=0Aremembrance where one can be alone with one’s thoughts and=0D=0Afeelings«. »On the Transmigration of Souls« is Adams’s most=0D=0Acontemplative and arguably most important work – and a powerful=0D=0Apiece of American history. =0D=0A=0D=0AThe programme also features the new work »Invisible House« by the=0D=0ACanadian composer Zosha Di Castri and Sergei Prokofiev’s Fifth=0D=0ASymphony, which the composer, according to his colleague Dmitri=0D=0AKabalevsky, considered »one of his finest works«. In 1944, Prokofiev=0D=0Adistilled the essence of his work to date into this symphony and, in=0D=0Athe hope of a swift end to the Second World War, dedicated it »to the=0D=0Atriumph of the human spirit«.=0D=0A=0D=0APERFORMERS=0D=0A=0D=0ANEW YORK PHILHARMONIC orchestra=0D=0A=0D=0AORFEÓ CATALÀ choir=0D=0A=0D=0ACOR DE NOIES DE L'ORFEÓ CATALÀ choir=0D=0A=0D=0AMITGLIEDER DES COR INFANTIL DE L'ORFEÓ CATALÀ choir=0D=0A=0D=0AGUSTAVO DUDAMEL conductor=0D=0A=0D=0APROGRAM=0D=0A=0D=0AZOSHA DI CASTRI=0D=0AInvisible House=0D=0A=0D=0AJOHN ADAMS=0D=0AOn the Transmigration of Souls=0D=0A=0D=0A- Interval -=0D=0A=0D=0ASERGEJ PROKOFJEW=0D=0ASymphony No. 5 in B-flat major, Op. 100=0D=0A
