Choral concert with works by Parry, Brahms, Schütz, Kaminski and Herzogenberg
Autumn and choral music have always had a close connection. Autumn is associated with juicy apples, bright yellow pumpkins and colorful leaves. But it also marks the transition to an increasingly darker time and is a season full of contrasts. The fog can be both friend and foe.
The Walkenried Consort's program "In the Fog" is dedicated to precisely these contrasts. It illuminates the contemplative and tranquil sides and at the same time explores the shadows of twilight and fading leaves. Songs by Johannes Brahms for 8-part choir open the evening and depict the fog as a veil of silence.
Sacred works by Heinrich von Herzogenberg, Heinrich Kaminski and Heinrich Schütz, on the other hand, point hopefully to the return of brighter times.
However, the fog is also the silent messenger of the ephemeral. The evening concludes with Hubert Parry's "Songs of Farewell" - a collection of motets that deal with saying goodbye to life. These can certainly be comforting, but above all they give a deep insight into the composer's soul at the end of his life, marked by the loss of many friends who lost their lives in the First World War. Hermann Hesse wrote:
"Truly, no one is wise,
Who does not know the darkness,
That inescapably and quietly
Separates him from all."
As true as these words are, we are still looking forward to sharing this wondrous music with you and cordially invite you to this special concert evening.
