This concert brings together a single sacred work, Baroque and early Classical repertoire, French art song, and new music reflecting on Canadian poetry, with an emphasis on fresh and detailed interpretation.

The program moves from F. Buencamino's Ave Maria and Bach through late Baroque–early Classical Scarlatti sonatas, then to an excerpt from "Classical Reflections on Canadian Poetry," including the world premiere of West Wind, a three-movement work for voice and piano composed by Houman Dehlavi on a poem by E. Pauline Johnson, a Canadian poet and performer of Mohawk and English ancestry.

The evening continues with songs by Fauré, Cui, and Poulenc, and Massenet's Élégie. It concludes with a new interpretation of Shur Daramads for kamancheh, piano, and voice, based on a newly developed compositional and notational approach that seeks to recover neglected aesthetics and nuances from non-Western musical systems that have not been fully preserved under dominant Western notation practices. This line of research and composition has been developed by Kasra Faridi through a Chalmers Arts Fellowship from the Ontario Arts Council (OAC).
