Vernissage "Dante: a legacy"
Sunday, 09/03/2025 / 03:00 PM - 05:00 PM / Alte Synagoge Hagenow
A unique exhibition by the renowned artist Ruth Tesmar will be presented in the Old Synagogue Hagenow.
For the first time, her hundred-part series of paintings on Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy" is being made accessible to the public in its entirety. The official opening will take place on March 9 at 3 pm with a discussion with the artist Ruth Tesmar, the cultural scientist Susanne Scherrer and the museologist Andrea Kaufmann. The violinist Nora Markowsky-Block will provide the musical backdrop.
The original originals of the three-volume bibliophile print work, created between 2002 and 2006, will be shown as an extensive collection of color collage sheets.
The series consists of 100 individual works that associatively take up the three parts of Dante's work - Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise. This extensive exploration enables a profound visual interpretation of the timeless masterpiece.
The exhibition is accompanied by five handwritten text strips with excerpts from Ossip Mandelstam's text "Conversation on Dante". These calligraphic elements add a textual and conceptual layer to the visual interpretation.
