Thinking it over

Traveling children's play for ages 5 and up | by Ove Thomsen and Melf Petersen | adapted for the stage by Katharina Mahnke

Gunnelt the anteater doesn’t know what to do—he just has too much on his plate! He actually enjoys being the caretaker of the rainforest. He likes being there for all the other animals when they need him. But for some reason, nothing brings him joy right now. It feels like it’s raininginside his head! His roommate Guschi, the armadillo, advises, “Relax a little—go for a walk!” Luckily, Gunnelt’s path leads him to Dr. Willi the monkey. He has an important tip for him: P. A. U. S. E. Will the sun shine again for Gunnelt soon?

In their picture book debut, Hamburg-based author and singer-songwriter Ove Thomsen and illustrator Melf Petersen explain in a child-friendly and imaginative way how to be mindful and take care of oneself. In 2023, they received the “Low German Book of the Year” award for this work, because when it comes to mindfulness, too, the early bird catches the worm. Now, the musical rainforest adventure is coming to the Fritz-Reuter-Bühne for the first time—taking the stage that means the world—and will then tour kindergartens and schools across the state.
