The Young ClassX / Igor Levit

The Young ClassX promises an unforgettable musical evening with an outstanding line-up. The Felix Mendelssohn Youth Orchestra, conducted by Clemens Malich, presents a varied programme with pianist Igor Levit.

After Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, Igor Levit and the orchestra will perform Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto. A piece full of virtuosity and youthful freshness by a composer whose life was marked by censorship and political pressure. The following two movements from Weinberg’s moving Symphony No. 21 »Kaddish«, which commemorates the victims of the Holocaust and represents an interplay of mourning and hope, flow smoothly into Chopin’s Ballade No. 1. Igor Levit’s student Dongping Wang plays this passionate ballad, which Weinberg used as a quotation in his symphony. Three movements from Holst’s »The Planets« form a powerful conclusion. Mars, the bringer of war, Venus, the bringer of peace, and Jupiter, the bringer of joy and cheerfulness, combine symphonic energy with youthful enthusiasm to create a unique concert evening.

The Young ClassX e.V. is generously supported by the Otto Group and received the Opus Klassik award in 2022 for its promotion of young talent.
