THE WORLD IRONICALLY CARRIED OUT Klaus Staeck meets Georg Schulz

First exhibition in the newly restored machine house at Wilirad Castle, vernissage on March 7, 2026 at 5 p.m.

Klaus Staeck (*1938 in Pulsnitz), who studied law, became known in the 1970s primarily for his biting political satire in the tradition of Heartfield's poster art. From 2006-2015, he was President of the Akademie der Künste for three terms.
"I continue to try to be a disruptor of comfortable conditions. My credo is that nothing is finished. Defending the weak through no fault of their own against the arrogance of the strong, that's what I'm still about." Klaus Staeck: Interview with "Die Tageszeitung" (February 28, 2018)

The Hamburg artist Georg Schulz (*1952 †2025) discovered his passion for carving characters into wood through his work as a cabinetmaker. He collected the observations that later found their way into his sculptures in everyday life. Each individual sculpture astounds with its simple but extremely accurate depiction of human characteristics. Although Georg Schulz works rather roughly, these whimsical figures seem to come alive in all their richness of nuance. And just as good caricature is able to do, they lovingly hold up a mirror to the viewer's weaknesses.
"When I started working on the figures, people suddenly started telling me personal things. I felt like a pastor. It was as if they saw something in it that seemed familiar to them"
