"The prehistory of Meckelnborg"

Fritz Reuter once described "De Urgeschicht von Meckelnborg" as his "most Low German book". With subtle mockery and a benevolent wink, he tells of his contemporaries' attempts to elevate the history of Mecklenburg and its inhabitants to the archetype of humanity: Mecklenburg as the cradle of mankind, and Adam and Eve cavorting in the paradise that is Krakow by the lake. "When the Lord God created the world, he started in Meckelnborg."

Susanne Bliemel, born in Schwerin in 1968, studied German and Slavic studies. After 25 years as a passionate language and literature teacher, especially for Low German, she has established herself as a freelance author, translator and language and cultural mediator in Mecklenburg. She has also hosted the Low German radio talk show "De Plappermœhl" on NDR 1 Radio Mecklenburg-Vorpommern since 2001.
