Symphoniker Hamburg / Anton Gerzenberg / Jonathan Stockhammer

Richard Strauss’s tone poem »Ein Heldenleben« forms the centrepiece of this powerful concert programme, portraying the life of a hero in all its splendour and introspection. When Jonathan Stockhammer brings Strauss’s sweeping E-flat major gestures to life, both orchestra and Laeiszhalle shine at their brightest.

Please note: Jonathan Stockhammer will be conducting the concert, as Han-Na Chang has had to cancel her performance due to illness.

The programme also includes Edvard Grieg’s vividly atmospheric Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 – from the serene »Morning Mood« to the dramatic »In the Hall of the Mountain King« – and Jörg Widmann’s poignant »Trauermarsch« for piano and orchestra. Rising star Anton Gerzenberg, winner of the 2024 Martha Argerich Steinway Prize, makes his debut with the Symphoniker Hamburg, giving voice to the work’s blend of melancholy and triumph with expressive brilliance.
