An exciting scavenger hunt with lots of new discoveries on the island of Poel

If you’ve always wanted to know how a hole gets into a flint or whether you can find sparkling crystals and gemstones on the Baltic Sea, don’t miss the event “Stones for Kids—An Exciting Scavenger Hunt with Lots of New Discoveries.”
On Friday, July 3, 2026, and Friday, July 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day, the geoscientists at GeoPark Nordisches Steinreich invite you to an exciting journey of discovery into the world of rocks. The event will take place at the Haus des Gastes, in the meeting room on the upper floor, in Kirchdorf on the island of Poel.
Under the motto “Rocks are formed, rocks fade away—and you’re part of it!”, children and their families will set out together in search of special rocks. Hidden within a large pile of rocks are true treasures and stories from times long past. We’re looking for rocks from the time of the dinosaurs, from the depths of the ocean, or from scorching deserts. Anyone who discovers the right finds will receive a stamp for their personal geologist’s passport, which they can take home at the end.
In a fun and interactive way, participants will learn just how diverse the world of rocks is and what exciting stories they can tell. Parents and grandparents are also welcome to join in—and maybe we’ll find out who can find the rocks the fastest.
The event is open to all curious explorers aged 5 to 99.
Admission is 10.00 euros per person.
