School tour of the NDR big band
Wednesday, 20/11/2024 / 07:00 PM - 09:00 PM / Stadthalle Ludwigslust
The school tours take the NDR Bigband and its crew to a different federal state in the broadcasting area every year. In 2024, they will be going to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in late fall. The focus is on the encounter and cooperation between pupils and professional musicians and thus the promotion of young talent. In the joint concert, the Jazz Youngsters and the Lulu Big Band will present their skills in the first set, followed by the NDR Big Band in the second set with the program "People, Places and Things" under the direction of Charlie Bates.
The school tours take the NDR Bigband and its crew to a different federal state in the broadcasting area every year. In 2024, they will be heading to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in late fall.
From November 20 to 22, 2024, the NDR Bigband will be on the road in the cities/municipalities of Ludwigslust (Wed, 20.11.2024), Wismar (Thu, 21.11.2024) and Schwerin (Fri, 22.11.2024), each day at a different school. For the NDR Bigband, the focus is on the encounter and cooperation between pupils and professional musicians and thus the promotion of young talent. Both ensembles present their respective work in a joint concert.
When the NDR Bigband rolls up for the school concert, it's not just a few instrument cases and music bags. A good two dozen musicians, lighting and sound technicians and, of course, a conductor are spread across two trucks and a bus with all their equipment. The NDR Big Band will travel to Ludwigslust with this contingent on November 20 to play a concert together with the Jazz Youngsters and the Lulu Big Band. Sharing the stage with the professionals, with lights and sound like the big ones - a highlight for the students! And when a musician from the NDR Big Band spontaneously offers to play a solo in the Jazz Youngsters' carefully rehearsed jazz standard, it's hard to beat.
In the second set, the NDR Bigband performs the program "People, Places and Things" under the direction of Charlie Bates.
