Experience the herd of Heidschnucken and sheep being driven into their stables directly on the Misselhorn Heath in the Südheide Nature Park near Hermannsburg.

The Misselhorn Heath is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful heathlands in the Southern Heath Nature Park. A herd of Heidschnucke sheep and sheep is at work here, tending the heath. In this way, our four-legged landscape caretakers contribute to the preservation of our unique cultural landscape. For visitors to the Lüneburg Heath, encountering a herd in the vast heathland is one of the highlights. With a little luck, the herd can be observed on hikes and bike rides in the Misselhorn Heath.

Sheep herding - a special experience in the Lüneburg Heath

A truly special experience is the herd's return to their farms. The herd's sheepfold is located just 250 meters from the Misselhorn Heath hiking car park, and the path from the car park to the sheepfold is signposted. During the sheepfold return, you can watch the shepherdess or shepherdess drive the herd back to their stable after a hard day's work on the heath. There, a safe, dry, and cozy sheepfold awaits the Heidschnucken and sheep, along with delicious hay. Experience an unforgettable moment during your vacation in the beautiful Misselhorn Heath in the Südheide Nature Park.

The sheepfold is located just a few meters from the Heidschnuckenweg (Heidschnucken Trail), making it easy for Heidschnuckenweg hikers to easily incorporate the round-up into their hike. Simply follow the signs at the Misselhorner Heide parking lot.

When do the sheep go into the stable?

  • Parking: Parking is only available at the Misselhorner Heide hiking car park

Please note: The animals cannot tell time, so it's quite possible that the herd will arrive at the barn before 5:00 p.m. Therefore, we recommend that you arrive near the sheepfold before 5:00 p.m.

When temperatures are high, the herd stays outside in the area in front of the barn. You can also observe them there.
