11th sandcastle competition on May 02, 2026 on the island of Poel
When people are busy digging, laughing and creating on the beach again, it's time for the next round of the sandcastle competition on the island of Poel! Together with the Association of Mecklenburg Baltic resorts, the Poel Island Tourist Board cordially invites locals and guests to the cheerful start of the season on the Am Schwarzen Busch promenade.
On Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., it's time to put sand in your hands, ideas in your head and get to shoveling! Whether alone, in pairs or in a team (max. 6 people) - you can dig, shape and decorate to your heart's content on a 5 x 5 meter construction site. Sand and water are of course provided in abundance so that imaginative castles, proud towers, mysterious tunnels or unusual sand sculptures can be created. You are welcome to bring your own tools and decorations - there are (almost) no limits to creativity.
A three-person jury will then take a close look at the structures. The most beautiful and original sand creations will be awarded prizes at around 16:30 before the event draws to a close at around 17:00.
If you fancy grabbing a shovel yourself, you should register quickly: Registration is possible until 28.04.2026, as the 20 starting places are limited. The registration forms are available at the spa administration and online at www.insel-poel.de/sandburgenwettbewerb.php.
If places are still available, late registration is possible on site from 12:30 pm.

from 11:00 a.m. Market activity | bouncy castle | children's crafts with the cultural association | cake bazaar of the 4th grade of Poel school to finance the primary school graduation day | mini golf
11:00 - 12:00 "The Treasure Chest" with Captain Alfred: fun and games for children | A fun hands-on program for little pirates, landlubbers and sea dogs. The children go on a great adventure trip to Treasure Island with buccaneer Captain Alfred.
12:00 - 17:00 Music across 7 seas with Captain Alfred | His own compositions, maritime evergreens and songs by Hans Albers, Freddy Quinn and humor from the Waterkant. He is known for his Elbe sailor, full beard and his BSO (chest symphony orchestra - accordion). Like few artists, he quickly finds his connection to the audience and the feeling for our Nordic homeland that he conveys with his songs from his extensive repertoire is genuine.
A day full of beach fun, creative sand art and fresh Baltic Sea air - the perfect way to start the new season together on the island of Poel.
So: grab your shovel and build sandcastles!
