RENDEZVOUS IN THE CASTLE

A Mecklenburg woman in Prussia - Crown Princess Cecilie (1886-1954)

When the 18-year-old Duchess Cecilie zu Mecklenburg married the Prussian heir to the throne in 1905, her future seemed bright. 40 years later, the former crown princess boarded an overcrowded refugee train in Berlin to flee the approaching Red Army to West Germany. What tasks did Cecilie perform as the second lady of the Empire, what was her reaction to the end of the monarchy in 1918? How did her life develop after the abdication of her father-in-law, Kaiser Wilhelm II?
Jörg Kirschstein from the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg, one of the best experts on the eventful life of the Mecklenburg princess, will talk about this.
