"REMEMBERING REUTER"

on the 150th anniversary of his death in 2024

Exhibition period: 10.07.2024 - 10.11.2024

The special exhibition on the 150th anniversary of Fritz Reuter's death follows the idea of which memorabilia, devotional objects and artistic reminiscences have been produced by different user groups to this day.

Fritz Reuter (1810 - 1874) from Mecklenburg achieved international success with his stories, novels and poems and re-established Low German as a literary language. The author of "Läuschen und Riemels", "Ut de Franzosentid" and "Ut mine Stromtid" was the highest-earning writer of his time with high print runs and royalties. "Dr. Fritz Reuter - Morgens nicht zu sprechen", a porcelain sign with this inscription he had attached to his villa in Eisenach.

It was intended to prevent too many admirers from ringing the doorbell. After all, the democrat and former fortress prisoner was a famous poet.

It is therefore not surprising that, in addition to the enthusiasm of a broad readership at home and abroad, stage works and feature films were performed during his lifetime and far beyond, right up to the present day.

The exhibition explores this connection.
In addition, people who were asked in the course of the preparations: "How do you feel about Reuter?"
