QUEERHISTORYMONTH

QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1st to 31st, 2026 (www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events within the festival will bring the history (and stories) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome – Kings, Quings, Queens, Allies, Friends, (chosen) Families, and everyone in between and beyond!

Event

A queer-historical tour of transgender history in St. Pauli – personal, moving and multifaceted.

The film focuses on the life story of Julia Böhmer, who represents a generation of transgender people whose experiences remained invisible for a long time. Based on her legacy – photographs, figurines, and costume jewelry – a previously "silent" chapter of the neighborhood's history is brought to light and told.

Using historical sources from the 1920s, 1950s, and 1970s, we take a queer look at St. Pauli and trace the history of transgender life to the present day. The tour leads to locations from then and now, revealing places that shaped the everyday lives of queer people or often provided the only spaces for visibility.

The tour is conceived and conducted by Eva Decker, who accompanied Julia Böhmer during the last years of her life. Commissioned by Julia, Eva Decker is researching her story academically and making it accessible through this tour and an exhibition on Spielbudenplatz.

A special city tour that combines historical research and personal perspectives – and invites you to discover St. Pauli from a new, queer point of view.

The guided city tour is complemented by an accompanying exhibition.

The tour is offered multiple times: May 6th, 10th, 13th, 20th, 24th, and 31st, 2026

Location: In the St. Pauli district of Hamburg

Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m

Meeting point: Beatlesplatz on the Reeperbahn/corner of Große Freiheit, Reeperbahn 174, 20359 Hamburg

Organized by: Eva Decker

Tickets: €20 (€15 concession), advance tickets available at https://www.tourguide-booking.com/de/tour/t-18122-transpauli-auf-den-spuren-transgeschlechtlichen-lebens-durch-st-pauli/

The event is not fully accessible, as the streets in Hamburg-St. Pauli are only partially well-developed. The event takes place mostly outdoors.
