Photo art exhibition: Silent testimonies

"80 years of the end of the war - 80 years of liberation - 80 years of remembering, commemorating, honoring, admonishing"

On the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the liberation of the Wöbbelin concentration camp, the Association of Memorials in the Ludwigslust-Parchim District and the Hagenow Museum cordially invite you to the opening ceremony of the traveling exhibition "Silent Testimonies" on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 3 p.m. in the Old Synagogue Hagenow, where it can be viewed until October 26, 2025.

Under the leitmotif "80 years of the end of the war - 80 years of liberation - 80 years of remembering, commemorating, honoring, admonishing", the exhibition is dedicated to the silent places of remembrance in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. In sensitive black and white photographs, the photographers Lisa Massow and Therese Kietzmann document central places of remembrance that commemorate the victims of National Socialism.

The photographs work with a restrained degree of abstraction that respectfully captures the atmosphere of the places and invites quiet reflection. The result is an artistic-documentary testimony that not only documents, but also encourages people to engage with history. The exhibition was created in close cooperation with the Association of Memorials and Remembrance Sites and will be on display at various locations in the district over the course of the year.

The exhibition has a special connection to the history of the town of Hagenow itself: On July 10, 1942 - 83 years ago - Käthe and Hermann Meinungen were deported with their daughter Hanna. Their fate exemplifies the suffering and extinction of Jewish life. The Old Synagogue - today a place of remembrance - was once a center of Jewish culture before it was desecrated by the National Socialists and the life of its community destroyed.
