ORTSZEIT - Maurinmühle

    Art and theme exhibition

    Curator: Annette Czerny
    Historian: Lukas Augustat

Vernissage on 17.05.2026 at 4 pm

ORTSZEIT is an art project dedicated to forgotten places: places that were the scene of inhumanity in the past and where hardly any traces of what happened can still be found. Using the possibilities of art, these places are made visible and the events are remembered.

Maurinmühle near Neschow in the district of Rehna is one such forgotten place. There was a children's home here where so-called difficult-to-educate children and children of Polish and Ukrainian forced laborers were housed during the National Socialist era. The historian Lukas Augustat has researched the children's home and published his findings under the title "Maurinmühle in Mecklenburg: Nazi children's home and 'foreign children's care facility'".

The exhibition "ORTSZEIT - Maurinmühle" combines artistic and academic work. Art continues the scientific research, it conveys the artists' personal perspectives on an emotional level, it penetrates the public, changes perspectives and evokes discourse. It poses questions and enables viewers to engage in independent debate. In this way, visitors can approach the topic on different levels.
The "ORTSZEIT - Maurinmühle" exhibition will open at Rehna Monastery on May 17. It will be on display until October 31. Admission to the vernissage is free.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Center for Political Education.
