Paintings by Armin Mueller-Stahl at the Kulturforum Schleswig-Holstein-Haus

The presentation of paintings on canvas and paper by the versatile artist Armin Mueller-Stahl is a joint project of Filmland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Kulturforum Schleswig-Holstein-Haus Schwerin and accompanies the Filmkunstfest, which takes place for the 35th time at the beginning of May. As part of the festival, Armin Mueller-Stahl will be awarded the "Golden Ox" honorary prize for his many years of versatile artistic work.

The show takes up this occasion and focuses on his visual art work, which was created parallel to his international film and theater career. Because: "Painting, writing, making music and acting simply belong together for me," Mueller-Stahl admitted years ago. There is no doubt that he is one of the most important exceptional artistic figures in recent German cultural history.

Armin Mueller-Stahl, born in Tilsit (East Prussia) in 1930, is one of the most important German-speaking actors of the 20th century. After studying music, he turned to acting in the 1950s and became a formative figure in theater and film in the GDR.

Among other things, he became famous for the film adaptation of "Jakob der Lügner" (directed by Frank Beyer), which was the only film produced in the GDR to be nominated for an Oscar. After leaving the GDR in 1980, Mueller-Stahl continued his career in West Germany and internationally. He worked with Rainer Werner Fassbinder, István Szabó and Costa-Gavras, among others. He was nominated for an Oscar in 1997.
