An event in the series MJ - The Michael Jackson Musical in Hamburg
Around the story of the creation of the 1992 “Dangerous” world tour, MJ – The Michael Jackson Musical presents some of the most popular and best-selling songs in music history and goes far beyond the star’s unique moves and unmistakable sound – with rare insights into the team spirit and creative power that made Michael Jackson a legend.
Elaborate casting process
The auditions for this extraordinary musical production have already begun. Stage Entertainment Germany Casting Director Ralf Schaedler explains: “It’s a huge challenge for our team to find a performer who can match the charisma of Michael Jackson: an artist who walks, moves, sings, and possesses his artistic aura almost exactly like him – but isn’t an imitator. Furthermore, the musical depicts Michael Jackson’s work over several decades. Therefore, we are looking for boys around 10 years old, teenagers in their late teens to early 20s, as well as performers to portray the adult Michael Jackson.”
Jana Nagy, Artistic Director for Child Performers at the Stage Theater an der Elbe, adds: “We are looking for boys who enjoy performing. The most important requirement is a love of singing and dancing. Theatre experience is not necessary. We look forward to receiving many applications from young talents who want to step into the role of a world star and perform in front of a large audience.”
award-winning creative team
A top-class international creative team has developed MJ – The Michael Jackson Musical: The book is by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (“Ruined”, “Sweat”). The set design is by Tony Award and two-time Emmy Award winner Derek McLane (“Moulin Rouge! The Musical”), the lighting design by acclaimed six-time Tony Award winner Natasha Katz (“An American in Paris”), costume design by Tony Award and Emmy Award winner Paul Tazewell (“Hamilton”), sound design by Tony Award and Olivier Award winner Gareth Owen (“Come From Away”), projection design by two-time Tony Award nominee Peter Nigrini (“Dear Evan Hansen”), and hair and wigs by two-time Emmy Award nominee Charles LaPointe (“The Color Purple”). Musical supervision is by Tony Award nominee David Holcenberg (“Matilda”), who, together with Tony Award winner Jason Michael Webb (“The Color Purple”), is also responsible for the orchestrations and arrangements.
