MidsummerRemise 2026 at Bernstorf Castle

The MidsummerRemise offers the opportunity to experience Bernstorf Castle in a special atmosphere. The manor house, built in the Dutch Neo-Renaissance style, opens its doors for guided tours, explorations of the castle grounds and musical performances.

As part of the MidsummerRemise, which is part of the nationwide "Baltic Manors" festival, Bernstorf Castle opens its doors to visitors and provides an insight into the history, architecture and current use of the house.

The castle was built between 1879 and 1882 for the von Bernstorff family in the Dutch Neo-Renaissance style. The characteristic brick and sandstone façade rests on a fieldstone base and still characterizes the appearance of the manor house today. It remained in the possession of the von Bernstorff family until 1945, before being used as a military hospital, elementary school and residential building in the following decades.

After years of decay, Dr. Wolfgang Röhr acquired the badly damaged building in 2010 and had it extensively renovated. Today, Bernstorf Castle is used as a family-run castle hospice and combines historical substance with a special social function.

A varied program with guided tours of the historic building, musical performances and cultural contributions awaits guests at the MidsummerRemise. The extensive park with lake also invites visitors to linger. An old atonement stone there is a reminder of the town's eventful history and blends in with the impressive cultural landscape.
