Markus Lanz: »Grönland – Meine Reisen ans Ende der Welt«

He usually interviews people who have interesting stories to tell. But for over twenty years, the host himself has been drawn time and again – as a photographer and adventurer – to one of the most extreme places on Earth: Greenland – a region that is currently also coming increasingly into the political spotlight. He presents these experiences in a lavishly produced multimedia show.

For Markus Lanz, Greenland is far more than just a travel destination. It is a place of extreme experiences, of intense nature observation, and of encountering a culture that exists under extreme conditions. »I always lug an incredible amount of gear around with me, including two cameras and more than half a dozen lenses. The telephoto lens alone weighs five kilos, and I’ve often asked myself why I actually put myself through this. But then, in this almost unreal winter light, a polar bear suddenly appears—and the ordeal is forgotten,« he says, describing his motivation.

His ZDF documentary »Sehnsucht Grönland« (2010) captivated nearly four million viewers. In 2014, he published the bestselling photo book »Grönland – Meine Reisen ans Ende der Welt« for National Geographic, based on some 20,000 photographs. The book paints a striking portrait of the Arctic – its overwhelming beauty as well as its fragility – while also offering personal insights into the lives of the Inuit. In recent years, Markus Lanz has also shared his experiences on stage.

This event takes place in German language.
