Mahler Chamber Orchestra / Igor Levit / Adam Fischer
Sunday, 26/10/2025 / 08:00 PM - 10:15 PM / Elbphilharmonie (Großer Saal)
Perhaps more than any other orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra has always believed in the power of music to unite us. With members from 25 different countries, the ensemble is organised as an independent democratic collective in which every voice counts. It is therefore no surprise that the orchestra loves to work together with cosmopolitan soloists who equally passionately believe in political, personal and intellectual freedom. Musician and dedicated activist Igor Levit is an obvious choice to join them to play Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto. It is also no coincidence that Levit has chosen a work by Beethoven. The great composer believed strongly in the right to free expression in music. This cleverly designed concert continues its theme of political and social tolerance with Schubert’s Symphony in C major »The Great« which was inspired by Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony as the ultimate ode to freedom.
