Lilly under the lime trees

Contribution of the Young State Theater Parchim to the 35th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution

After the death of her mother Rita, 13-year-old Lilly is left to fend for herself. She doesn't want to go into care or boarding school, but to Jena to live with her aunt Lena, whom she first met at the funeral in Hamburg and immediately took to her heart. But in 1988, Jena is still behind a heavily guarded wall that divides Germany into two parts. Lilly can't understand this, especially as Rita was always happy to tell her daughter about her youth in the GDR right up to the end. And there are so many parallels! Rita had also lost both her parents at an early age and had grown up in the loving care of her older sister Lena. On a vacation trip to Hungary, Rita met Lilly's father Jochen and soon afterwards fled to him in the West. Lilly only found out about the serious consequences this had for Lena, who had stayed behind in the GDR, when, after an adventurous odyssey, she unexpectedly arrived in Jena for Christmas and met with little enthusiasm from Lena's family. Lena's daughter Katrin in particular wants nothing to do with this cousin from the West ...

Anne Voorhoeve tells a lively story full of tragedy and comedy, full of parallels and contrasts between over here and over there. Who am I? Where do I come from and where do I belong? These are exciting questions, especially against the backdrop of recent German history and particularly for young people.
