Reading and talk with Shole Pakravan and Steffi Niederzoll
The "World Day against the Death Penalty" has been celebrated annually on October 10 since 2003. Amnesty International has been fighting for the abolition of this type of punishment for many years. The Amnesty group in Schwerin is taking this day as an opportunity and invites you to a reading with Shole Pakravan and Steffi Niederzoll on October 11, 2024. Together they will read from their book "How to become a butterfly". The book is the moving life story of a courageous young woman who acts as a harbinger of the protests in Iran: for women, life and freedom. It is a tribute to life - and a call to everyone to fight for freedom and justice, regardless of religion, cultural affiliation or gender.
Shole Pakravan studied acting in Tehran, is a women's rights activist and fights against the death penalty. Her commitment was triggered by the execution of her daughter Reyhaneh in 2014, who had stabbed a secret service employee in self-defense seven years earlier when he tried to rape her. After a show trial, she was sentenced to death by hanging for alleged premeditated murder. Despite everything, the young Iranian woman never tired of campaigning for women's rights and for her fellow prisoners. Shole Pakravan left Iran in 2017 and now lives in exile in Berlin.
Steffi Niederzoll is an author and director and tells the story of Reyhaneh Jabbari's fate in the film "Seven Winters in Tehran". It is her documentary film debut, which had its world premiere at the Berlinale 2023. The film was awarded the Peace Film Prize there.
