A concert rich in expression, virtuosity, and contrasting moods: Beethoven opens with his Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 16, in which classically elegant structures meet lively dialogues between the instruments. With »Après une lecture du Dante,« Franz Liszt unfolds a dramatic, poetic sonic journey for solo piano. After the intermission, Fauré’s deeply sensitive Piano Quartet in C minor, Op. 15, and Brahms’s fiery »Hungarian Dances« lead, with varied virtuosity and rhythmic exuberance, to a brilliant, sensually rich evening of chamber music.
