Gesellschaft umCAREn – Ein Workshop zu Carearbeit, globalen Sorgeketten und Kämpfen um Anerkennung

Care work and migration are intertwined, as increasing numbers of migrants work in private households or in care services – and are sometimes specifically recruited for these roles. A look at migration policies, particularly those of the Global North, reveals that this is politically motivated – at the expense of the workers who perform care work for precarious wages and with uncertain residency status.

In this introductory workshop, we will examine how people worldwide are fighting for recognition of the care work they perform and for their rights. Furthermore, we will interactively explore global care chains and learn about the intersectional perspectives of migrant workers who experience various and sometimes intertwined forms of discrimination.

The event is a collaboration between W3_Werkstatt für internationale Kultur und Politik eV within the framework of the project VerCAREte Verhältnisse – Wege in eine klima- und schlechtergerechte Zukunft and the Museum der Arbeit – Stiftung Historische Museen Hamburg within the framework of the exhibition „CARE! Wenn aus Liebe Arbeit wird“.
