Merchandise in sports is not a niche business: the number of Bundesliga jersey sales in particular drives total revenues in the professional sector into the tens of millions.

But where and under what conditions are all these textiles actually produced? What about sporting values like fairness and respect when it comes to wages and production conditions in the Global South? And which German professional football clubs are actually living up to their social responsibility and paying attention to sustainability in their fan shops?

That's exactly what our online session on December 16, 2025 at 2:30 pm on Zoom is about: We will present what sustainable merchandising can look like – and show that smaller associations, public procurement officers and interested private individuals can also be inspired by it.

For good reason, we invited the merchandise managers of FC St. Pauli, Catharina Fricke, and HSV, Sascha Steinbrück, to this event – who, although separated by their colors as always, are surprisingly united in their purpose.

Another speaker you can look forward to is Lara Schröder, sustainability officer of cum ratione, who examined the fan shops of Bundesliga professionals in a study.

The event will be moderated by Anton Klischewski, who is involved in the nationwide campaign "Sport handelt fair" (Sport Trades Fairly), with which this event is being held in cooperation. He is also a consultant for sports and fair trade at the Fair Trade Berlin Action Alliance, as well as a board member and coordinator for sustainability and engagement at FC Internationale, a club that has achieved unique successes in this area.
