On January 10, 2024 at 7.30 pm we invite you to the next lecture in the Archaeological Open Air Museum. Dr. Hans-Ulrich Voß (Lübstorf) will present new finds from the Migration Period in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The Migration Period in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has long been regarded in archaeological research as an era of emigration and extensive settlement abandonment. Chronologically, it begins with the appearance of the Huns in the northern Black Sea region in 375 AD and the migration of the Lombards and other population groups from Pannonia to northern Italy in 568 AD. This period represents the final phase of Germanic settlement before the immigration of Slavic tribes. Numerous new discoveries and excavations of graves, settlements and hoards as well as water finds, together with a large number of metal finds, now show a new, much more differentiated picture of the widely networked population groups that settled here until the 7th century AD.
The lecture will take place in the exhibition building of the Archaeological Open-Air Museum. Admission is 3.50 euros (reduced 2 euros). Before the lecture, there will again be the opportunity to visit the exhibition "Slavic Castle - In the Footsteps of a Queen" on the 2nd floor of the exhibition building.
