Cinema at phanTECHNIKUM: A Call to Spy - Spy by vocation

Film screening as part of the International Museum Day

On International Museum Day, we will be showing the film "A Call to Spy " (2019) by Lydia Dean Pilcher at 2 pm. The thriller tells the gripping story of three women who work for the British secret service during the Second World War and build up a spy network in occupied France.

The film screening is also part of the program accompanying the city-wide showcase exhibition "THEN TODAY HERE - Women in Resistance against National Socialism". This initiative by "OMAS gegen RECHTS Wismar" focuses on the often forgotten, courageous and risky resistance of women who opposed the totalitarian system with their humanity. From April 16 to May 31, 2026, posters at various locations in Wismar will commemorate these pioneers of civil courage.

One of these 22 posters hangs at the entrance to the phanTECHNIKUM and commemorates one of the women portrayed in the film: Noor Inayat Khan. The story of the Indian-born radio operator of the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) is characterized by extraordinary courage: under the cover name "Madeleine", she was the first female radio operator to work for a British agent ring in occupied Paris. Despite numerous arrests in her circle, she maintained vital radio communications with London for months. After her betrayal and arrest by the Gestapo, she was finally murdered in the Dachau concentration camp in September 1944. This two-hour feature film brings her story and that of her comrades-in-arms to life.

    Duration: 124 minutes
