    Female Artists of GEDOK M-V

A very special network of solidarity for women in the visual arts, music, literature, the performing arts, and the applied arts was founded in Hamburg in 1926 by Ida Dehmel (1870–1942), an art patron and women’s rights activist. Founded as the “Association of German and Austrian Women Artists’ Associations of All Art Forms” (GEDOK), the organization was explicitly committed from the very beginning to promoting and connecting women artists in a patriarchal society.

A century of commitment to the visibility and equality of women in art and culture is being celebrated throughout Germany this year. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional group is contributing to the anniversary with a thematic exhibition. Through painting, photography, installation, writing, and song, the female artists present their work while simultaneously creating a space for female perspectives in our society.
